Jeffrey Wootan, PE is Executive Vice President of Solar Design Associates, Inc. In 1976 Helio Associates, which specialized in research of vapor deposition, as applied to high heat thermal collectors (1800°F), acquired his interests in Environmental Energy Systems to have him commercialize their research. During this time, Jeff was elected Chairman of the Southern Arizona Chapter of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and began giving lectures on solar to many groups throughout the southwest including schools, Rotary Clubs, HVAC Conferences, ASHRAE Conferences, etc. He also co-patented the “Tumblelog™” which was a fireplace log made from tumbleweeds. In 1978, Butler Manufacturing Company purchased Terra Light and considered integrating the solar into their Butler Buildings. Terra Light also put an offer to Jeff, which he could not refuse to become their VP of Sales and Marketing. During the next eight years Terra Light grew to become the dominant absorber manufacturer in the world, with over 60% market share. He was elected by his peers to be the first President of the newly formed Suppliers Council of SEIA.
