NESEA Building Energy Conference 06

Welcome to Building Energy

Greetings from the Conference Chair

I am Christine Scott, Conference Chair for BE’06 and a senior planner for Goody Clancy, an architecture, planning and preservation firm in Boston, Massachusetts. My work includes developing sustainability ideas that are embraced by the community, supported by government leaders, and set the standard for future development. How is this possible? By tapping into NESEA’s resources and working with people in the NESEA community!

NESEA keeps me on the cutting edge of green building and clean energy solutions and challenges me to make a difference. NESEA can do the same for you!

The capacity for invention and the creativity of the NESEA community provides an unlimited positive dynamic that creates opportunity, propels change and restores hope. We are focusing on opportunities and issues within our present environment, making our work essential, relevant and achievable. This level of abundance is available to all of us in this supportive, sustainable and growing community.

It doesn’t matter what level of experience you have with green building and clean energy — there is something here for everyone and always more than you expect. You will be challenged and you will find real solutions; you will be transformed here in your days with us. Many have bonded with this committed community, discovered an invaluable resource, met lifelong friends, and established profitable business connections at NESEA conferences. This is the place we go for inspiration and collaboration that makes anything possible.

So come ready to learn, to share and enjoy your time with us. Embrace the excitement and develop your passion as a resource for future generations.

Welcome!

Welcome from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative

Over the past year, rising energy costs, Hurricane Katrina, and the increasingly evident threat of global warming have focused public attention on energy concerns and ways to cut costs. Green building measures and renewable energy are poised to make a meaningful difference in the Northeast.

Building Energy 2006 is a perfect setting for energy and building professionals, as well as concerned citizens, to learn and network. I don’t know of a better place to make connections—both intellectual and personal. That’s why the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) is pleased to be the Title Sponsor of this conference.

MTC is the state’s development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy. It administers the Renewable Energy Trust, which was created by the Legislature in 1997 as part of electric utility restructuring in order to promote renewable energy. Message from NESEA's Executive Director

Nancy Hazard

Welcome to the premier conference and trade show in the Northeast for green building and renewable energy professionals - NESEA’s 32nd annual conference. This year’s conference, under Christine Scott’s leadership, is shaping up to be the best yet. This year we expect close to 2,000 conference participants, who, like you, are working to make the theory of sustainability real.

The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) is the Northeast’s leading organization of professionals working in sustainable energy, whole systems thinking and green technologies. NESEA facilitates the widespread adoption and use of sustainable energy by providing support to industry professionals and by educating and motivating consumers to learn about, ask for and adopt sustainable energy and green building practices. NESEA accomplishes this through a number of ongoing programs and annual events including:

We strive to make the vision of reducing oil use and climate change emissions to zero a reality. With energy challenges and climate change a daily item in the national news, it is an excellent time to come and join us at Building Energy 2006.
